Northern Illinois Food Bank's Foodie 5K expanding to three locations in 2015

Registration now open for second annual fun run/walk taking place in Wheaton, Libertyville and Joliet

The Foodie 5K presented by Meijer is not only back by popular demand this year, but it is also expanding to three locations.

Registration is now open at www.SolveHungerToday.org/Foodie5K for Northern Illinois Food Bank’s second annual fun run/walk featuring a post-run festival with entertainment, food trucks and activities for kids. Last year’s inaugural Foodie 5K sold out four weeks before the race date and was a smashing success as more than 1,200 participants helped raise $100,000 for Northern Illinois Food Bank.

The Foodie 5K presented by Meijer returns to its DuPage County roots at Cantigny Park this year on Saturday, April 11. The event makes its debut in Lake County on May 9 with a trail run at Adler Park in Libertyville and takes a spin in Will County on Oct. 3 at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, offering the unique opportunity for participants to run and walk on the 1.5-mile race track.

The Foodie 5K presented by Meijer is a chip-timed fun run/walk open to all ages. All registered participants will receive a shirt, a $2 food truck voucher to be used at the post-race festival and more. Participating food trucks as of press time are Babycakes, Best Truckin’ BBQ, Chicago Pizza Boss, Cupcakes for Courage, Fat Shallot, Grill Chasers, The Slide Ride, Toasty Cheese Mobile Eatery and Yum Dum.

All participants are encouraged to fundraise, and anyone who fundraises more than $100 is eligible to receive prizes that include a waist pack runner’s belt, a folding cooler chair and an Amazon gift card. All funds will benefit Northern Illinois Food Bank, where $1 donated provides $8 worth of food for neighbors in need. Northern Illinois Food Bank provides food to more than 71,000 people each week through a network of more than 800 community food pantries and feeding programs in 13 counties.
