Obituary: Cathleen "Kata" A. Recto-Sambrano

Cathleen "Kata" A. Recto-Sambrano, 65, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. She was born Dec. 31, 1946, in Guadalupe, Makati, Metro-Manila, Philippines, came to live in the United States in 1972, and had lived in Lindenhurst since 1996. Kata was a registered nurse and received her master's degree from the Philippine Women's University in Manila. She had retired as a nurse consultant from Great Lakes Naval Hospital on June 1, 2012. Kata was an active participant and lector at Marytown in Libertyville. Surviving are her husband, Atanacio "Bowie" Sambrano; children, Lau (Al) Sambrano-Sievert of Antioch and L. Cyrus (Stefanie) Sambrano of Waukegan; three grandchildren, Annalise, Davin and Cyrus; her brother, Cedric (Angeles) Recto; and sisters, Cynthia (Nono) Carreon and Colleen Nogoy. A public memorial Mass will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Marytown, 1600 W. Park Ave., Libertyville. A private family funeral Mass will be held on Friday, with interment following at Ascension Cemetery. Visitation will follow the Mass on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Marytown, would be appreciated.
