Obituary: Kenneth A. Varney

Services have been scheduled for Kenneth A. Varney of Libertyville.

Kenneth A. Varney, of Libertyville, passed away March 4 at Lake Forest Hospital with his family by his side. Ken was born April 19, 1927 in Waukegan and was a lifelong resident of Libertyville. He served in the US Army from 1945-1947, a Veteran of World War II, serving in Korea. Ken graduated from Libertyville High School in 1945. He worked for road builders in Lake and Cook County and was a member of Operating Engineers Local 150 for over 60 years. In retirement he was employed part time by Graham Enterprises for 10 years. Ken's most endearing traits were his sense of humor, sharp wit and indomitable spirit. He will be missed by those of us who love him.

Ken is preceded in death by his son, Allen, and his brother Herbert. He is survived by Marilyn, his wife of 53 years, his children Thomas (Marisa), Catherine (Jim) Sprauer, Amy (Jon) Bertoletti; and his grandchildren Andrea (Matt) Velazquez, Nina and Michael Varney, and Sarah, Joseph, Nicholas, and Mary Catherine Sprauer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 8 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 121 East Maple Ave, Libertyville with private interment at Ivanhoe Cemetery, Fremont at a future date. Visitation will be Thursday, March 7 from 4 - 8 p.m. at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place, Libertyville with a Rosary service at 7:30.
