One Dead After Six-Car Crash On I-94

Chain reaction crash kills Ohio man, shuts down eastbound lanes at Libertyville Sunday

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — An Ohio man died Sunday from a six-car crash on Interstate 94 that sent two others to the hospital, according to Illinois State Police. The crash took place at 11:49 a.m. at Buckley Road, with the cleanup and investigation shutting down all eastbound lanes for more than three hours.

Allen Kenngott, 62, of Akron, driver of a 2015 Dodge Caravan, died of his injuries at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Catherine Kenngott, 60, also of Akron, was in critical condition with serious injuries at the same hospital, state police said.

Ashley Szudarksi, 32, of Chicago, was taken to Lake Forest Hospital with minor injuries after the 2016 Mercedes she was driving was involved in the accident, but no other injuries were reported.

Emergency personnel from Lake Forest, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods and Gurnee also responded to assist Libertyville paramedics with rescue ambulances.

The accident began after the 62-year-old driver of a 2007 Dodge, Anita Silvert of Northbrook, lost control and hit a 2005 Honda Pilot, driven by 59-year-old Roberto Maldonado of Kenosha, according the preliminary investigation by the state police.

A chain reaction crash followed, involving the Caravan, the Pilot. the Mercedes and two other cars, police said.

Those other two cars involved were a 2000 Kenworth with a 1997 Boydstun trailer driven by James Hart, 69, of Grande Ledge, Michigan and a 2007 Honda driven by Kavitha Amudttan, 41, of Waukegan.
