Pot Sales in Libertyville: Commission Says 'Keep It Out'
The plan commission is recommending marijuana not be sold in town once it becomes legal for recreational use on Jan. 1.
LIBERTYVILLE, IL — The village's planning commission on Monday is recommending marijuana not be sold in town once it becomes legal for recreational use in January, the Daily Herald reports. The village board will now have the final say on whether to allow the sale of pot in town during an upcoming meeting.
Echoing the sentiments of several residents who stopped out to a public hearing on the topic Monday, commissioners said allowing the sale of recreational marijuana could lead to traffic deaths, injuries or more crime, according to the Daily Herald. They also agreed it could hurt young people's health and goes against Libertyville's family-friendly image.
"Keep it out," Commissioner Walt Oakley said.
