Lake County Center for Independent Living offers free services to people with disabilities. If you live in Lake or McHenry County and have a disability, any disability, then you qualify. Today we highlight two services.
The Personal Assistant program is for those who need a PA to complete daily activities. In this program you can find trained Pas from a referral list, learn how to hire and manage your PA, and receive help to apply for the Home Services Program through the state of IL to pay for the PA. If you are someone interested in becoming a personal assistant, you can also contact the center to sign up for training and join the referral list.
Support groups are also available to anyone with a disability. They provide safe space for discussion of personal feelings that are shared by those with first-hand experience. Check out Words of Wisdom (WOW) - a support group for any individual with any disability that meets on the second Wednesday of every month. Or consider Heads Up- a support group for survivors of Traumatic Brain Injury and their care givers that meet at 7:00 pm on the fourth Tuesday of every month.
