Pups Allowed Into Hawthorn Mall During Halloween Event

On Oct. 31, Hawthorn Mall in Vernon Hills will host its Puppy Paw-Rade and trick-or-treat event.

VERNON HILLS, IL — Dogs will be welcome into Hawthorn Mall in Vernon Hills later this month as part of a Halloween event happening at the shopping center.

The mall will host its in-center Trick-or-Treat and Puppy Paw-Rade on Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to a news release from Hawthorn Mall. Children can stop out in costume and trick-or-treat at participating retailers during the event, which is free and open to the public.

From 1 to 1:30 p.m., Hawthorn, 122 Hawthorn Center, will team up with Orphans of the Storm to host its Puppy Paw-Rade, which will start at the southwest entrance to the center — near Maggiano's — and loop around Center Park before ending in the Macy's court.

Orphans of the Storm will hold a parade of adoptable dogs and puppies, giving families visiting the center for trick-or-treating the change to meet and interact with the dogs that are in need of new homes. Those stopping out are also welcome to bring their "well-mannered, leashed and costumed dogs" to join the parade as well, according to a news release.

Dogs must remain on leashes and in the common areas to the center only during the parade.

A second Halloween event, Halloween Spooktacular, will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 28 on the lower level near Center Park.

During this fun-filled event, there will be a 45-minute magic show by Magic Dave that will include the levitation of an audience member as well as face painting and balloon twisting, an inflatable bounce house, pumpkin decorating, cookie decorating, and a costume contest.

The cost for the Halloween Spooktacular is $5 per child and children ages 2 years old and younger are free. Those wishing to register to attend can visit here.

Each child that is registered will receive a “spooky basket,” a pumpkin to decorate and access to all event activities. A portion of the proceeds from the event’s ticket sales will support Orphans of the Storm.
