Residential Beautification Contest Planned

Start your beautiful lawn plans now to enter the contest in July.

The Keep Libertyville Beautiful Commission has begun plans for their annual Residential Beautification Award. The contest is held every summer and gives a cash award to two Libertyville homeowners who show great care and upkeep in their lawn and gardens.

Lawns are judged in ten categories, including grass, flowers, trees and shrubs, walkways, eye-catching beauty, and landscape design. Only the front of houses is judged, and each home is judged by three people, who rate the home on a scale up to ten in each category. Scores are then averaged to find the winners.

“This is the time to start thinking about entering,” said Commission member Mary Cotey. A little planning now in early spring can lead to a beautiful yard in the summer.

About 30 homeowners entered the contest last year. Applications will be available in June at the farmer’s market, the village hall, the library, the village website and at the First Friday event in July. Judging will be held during the first weekend in August, and the winners will receive $100 and a certificate at the September Village Board meeting.
