'Road Rage Incident' Leads To 2 Crashes In Libertyville: Cops

Kayla Alcaide, 19, and John Wiesemann, 29, both of Waukegan, faces reckless driving charges following the Dec. 1 incident.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — A Waukegan man and woman faces charges after they were involved in a "road rage incident" that led to two crashes in Libertyville earlier this month.

Kayla Alcaide, 19, and John Wiesemann, 29, were both taken into custody during the afternoon hours of Dec. 1 in connection with the incident. At 1:04 p.m. on Dec. 1, officers with the Libertyville Police Department were called to the scene of a hit-and-run traffic crash in the area of Lincoln Avenue and Fourth Avenue, according to the Libertyville Police Department police reports.

While investigating the collision, authorities learned Alcaide, who was driving a blue Honda, and Wiesemann, who was behind the wheel of a black Subaru, were initially involved in a road rage incident near St. Mary's Road and Park Avenue, which lead to the hit-and-run crash and another collision.

"It was reported the road rage stemmed from one of the drivers yelling at the other for almost causing an accident with an unrelated vehicle. The driver who was yelled at then started following the other, which resulted in a rear-end collision," Libertyville deputy chief Chad Roszkowiak told Patch in an email response. The rear-end collision happened when Alcaide's Honda collided into the back of Wiesemann's Subaru near Fourth Avenue and Sunnyside Avenue, according to authorities.

Wiesemann is accused of then chasing Alcaide's Honda through the neighborhood "recklessly at high speeds," police said.

Alcaide is accused of then failing to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Fourth and East Lincoln avenues before her Honda crashed into a grey Honda that was headed north on Fourth Avenue, according to a police report.

No one was injured in the collision or the incident, authorities said.

Wiesemann and Alcaide were both arrested and taken to the Libertyville Police Department where they were cited. Wiesemann has been charged with reckless driving, and Alcaide faces charges of reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, disregarding a stop sign and failure to reduce speed, according to online court records.

They were later released on personal recognizance bonds. Alcaide and Wiesemann are both set to appear for arraignments in Lake County at 3 p.m. on Jan. 18.
