Tornado Warning Issued for Lake County (Expired)

A tornado warning has been issued for east central Lake County through 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was spotted over Waukegan at 8:56 p.m. Sunday and a report of a funnel cloud was spotted three miles north of Libertyville at 8:55 p.m, according to the National Weather Service.

The tornadic thunderstorm is expected to remain mainly over rural areas of east central Lake County including the following interstates: I-94 between mile markers 11 and 13 and I-294 between mile markers 11 and 13.

Those in the area of this warning should take cover and move to a basement or to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. If you are in a mobile home, in a vehicle or outdoors, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris, according to the National Weather Service.
