Man Faces Charges After Shutting Door on Deputy's Hand
The deputy will now have to undergo surgery after his hand was fractured in the incident.

A Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputy will have to undergo surgery after police said a man shut a door on the officer’s hand while he was attempting to get into a home where a woman was being held against her will.
David Martinez-Sanchez now faces several charges following the incident Tuesday night. He is charged with aggravated battery of a peace officer, unlawful restraint, two counts of domestic battery, resisting arrest resulting in injury, obstructing a peace officer and resisting arrest. His bail has been set at $100,000.
The sheriff’s office deputy responded to a report of a fight in progress in the 24600 block of West Passavant Ave. at 10:30 p.m. where Martinez-Sanchez is accused of committing a battery against his ex-girlfriend and a male adult, according to a Lake County Sheriff’s Office press release. She was being held within the home, police said.

“When Deputies attempted to make entry through the front door of the residence, Martinez-Sanchez actively resisted their efforts and began pushing back on the door to prohibit deputies from entering,” according to the news release.
He is accused of then closing the door on the hand of a deputy, injuring the officer. Deputies attempted to enter the residence through a back door, however, Martinez-Sanchez barricaded the back door with furniture, police said. Deputies were able to get in through a window and took Martinez-Sanchez into custody.
