Shen Yun Performing Arts Returning to Chicago

The performances will be held July 7-8.

Shen Yun Performing Arts is returning to the Civic Opera House July 7-8.

The New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s premier Chinese dance and music company. Its mission is to revive China’s 5,000-year-old civilization. Its beautiful and inspiring performances often leave audiences with feelings of serenity and joy.

Shen Yun works this magic with a program consisting of classical Chinese dance, Chinese ethnic and folk dances, bel canto-style singing, and instrumental solos. Audiences travel from the Himalayas to tropical lake-filled regions, from legends of the Chinese culture’s creation to contemporary stories of courage, from the highest heavens down to the dusty plateaus of the Middle Kingdom. The distinct sounds of ancient Chinese instruments join with the rich tones of a Western orchestra to produce a fresh, unexpected sound. Singers give voice to the longings of millennia. Gorgeous costumes recreate the styles of dynasties and regions. A groundbreaking digital backdrop expands the stage in space and time. Bi-lingual emcees introduce each act.

Elite Chinese dancers, choreographers and musicians founded Shen Yun in 2006. Now, its three companies perform in over 100 cities in North and South America, Europe, Oceania, and East Asia, in a tour that lasts from December to May. Each year the company puts on an all-new performance, with original music, dances, costumes and backdrops.
