UPDATE: Gurnee Boy, 10, Killed in I-94 Crash

The two children were ejected from the vehicle during the crash Saturday afternoon.

The 50-year-old driver in a crash that left one boy dead and three in serious condition has been cited for improper child restraint and improper lane usage.

Silvia Jacob, 50, of Green Oaks, was traveling west on Interstate 94 near mile post 12 when the Lincoln Navigator struck a median wall and crossed all four lanes of traffic before coming to rest on the right shoulder of the roadway, according to a Illinois State Police press release.

Two children, ages 10 and 11, were ejected from the vehicle.

The 10-year-old Gurnee boy was taken to Condell Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Several media reports have identified the boy as Reeve Matthew.

The 11-year-old, who is from Des Plaines, remained in serious condition.

There were five other occupants in the car. Two of the adults were taken to Vista Hospital in serious condition. The rest of the occupants were taken to Condell Medical Center.

The passengers in the vehicle included: Cherian Jacob, 54, of Green Oaks; Mercy Skaria, 69, of Des Plaines; a 24-year-old Gurnee woman (whose name is not known) and an 11-year-old child from Des Plaines.

ABC 7 Chicago is reporting the group was traveling from Des Plaines to a church outing in Wisconsin.

All lanes of traffic are now open. The crash remains under investigation.
