Walsh Too Extreme to Represent Us

Lib/Mund needs a state rep that reflects our community's values

As a District 51 voter, I am concerned about the recent nomination of right-wing extremist Helene Walsh to represent our Illinois General Assembly District in Springfield. She is too extreme for this district.

In the era of mass shootings at our schools, shopping malls, concert venues, and places of worship, one must wonder how Helene Walsh and her husband, former Congressman Joe Walsh felt it appropriate to gleefully participate in the Lake Zurich firearms raffle mere weeks after the horrific 2017 tragedy in Las Vegas?

Public support for common sense gun legislation is at its highest level in 25 years. Our nation and community is moving in favor of reasonable gun reform. Helene Walsh is not.

Ms. Walsh is discriminatory against minorities, claiming on Facebook that if Muslims get elected to office and create laws they will “encumber the masses.” This community of Libertyville and Mundelein is one that is made up of a variety of religions and backgrounds, becoming more diverse by the year. Residents of District 51 need someone more inclusive of our cultural differences, not less. In contrast, Mary Edly-Allen co-founded the diversity committee at the school district where she teaches.

Strikingly, we, the voters of the Illinois 51st, have not had a choice for this office in 8 years. 1 name on the ballot only, every two years. This November, we finally have the chance to choose from more than one candidate – so let’s be crystal clear on who these candidates are.

Mary Edly-Allen is the candidate in favor of common sense gun legislation. She believes in nurturing an inclusive, welcoming Lake County. She is the best choice for Illinois House District 51 in November.
