LAKE COUNTY, IL — A Park City mom who failed to give her 11-year-old son the medications he needed following a heart transplant has been sentenced to eight years in prison.

Jennifer Stroud, 41, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and endangering a child/causing death in connection with the 2016 death of her son, Jason, according to prosecutors. Stroud was also sentenced Thursday to two years of supervised release. She must serve at least 50 percent of the 8-year prison sentence.

Authorities say Jennifer failed to take her son, Jason, to regular hospital visits following his heart transplant. She also was not giving him the medication he needed to prevent his body from rejecting his new heart.
