Woodland Boys Track Team Wins Conference Championship

The Woodland Middle School (Gurnee) 7th and 8th grade Boys Track Teams won conference titles on Saturday for the second consecutive season.

On Saturday, May 5th, middle schools from all over Lake County met at Round Lake High School to compete for track & field supremacy.

Woodland Middle School swept the boys side, earning championships in both the 7th and 8th grade divisions. On the girls side, they nearly pulled off the same feet, with the 7th graders proving victorious, and the 8th graders finishing 2nd. This is the second consecutive season that Woodland has walked away with 3 out of the 4 trophies as a program, and builds off the momentum that they started in the fall, when both the boys and girls squads swept the conference cross-country championships.

The boys' teams are coached by Brenda Sands, Anthony Knight, and former All-American/All-State track runner from Grayslake, Will Brewster. Brewster came back to coach his former middle school, where he won multiple conference titles and earned All-American honors.

The teams will head to the IESA Sectional Championship next weekend hosted by Grayslake North High School.
