Beloved Tiger Euthanized at Lincoln Park Zoo

Molly lived to be 18 years old before Zoo staff made a "difficult but humane" decision last week.

CHICAGO, IL - A tiger who became a fan favorite at Lincoln Park Zoo was put down last week.

Staff at the Zoo made the difficult decision on Wednesday due to the “age-related discomfort and illnesses” facing Molly, a female Amur tiger who has lived at the Kovler Lion House for the majority of her life.
The Zoo said the decision to euthanize was “difficult but humane” in a news release.

“Despite her age, Molly would frequently roam both her indoor and outdoor exhibits and powerfully vocalize, much to the enjoyment of staff and guests,” says Lincoln Park Zoo General Curator Dave Bernier. “Over the years, Molly developed very strong, trusting bonds with her keepers and enjoyed her time quietly lounging or exuding her playful side.”
