Customer Leaves $2,000 Tip At Lincoln Park Restaurant

A generous man tipped 260 percent at Boka Sunday.

CHICAGO, IL — A man from Seattle dined at the award-winning Boka restaurant in Lincoln Park Sunday, and clearly he was impressed — he left a $2,000 tip. "Mike" was visiting Chicago from the West Coast, and spent $769 on his meal. The generous man then tipped $300, before walking into the kitchen and giving each of the 17 kitchen staff members a $100 bill.

Mike — whose last name wasn't available — praised the kitchen staff for the food and service. The restaurant said it's the most generous tip it's ever received.

Jon Leopold, Boka's general manager, told the Chicago Tribune that the tip meant a lot to the staff.

“It was amazing to have that happen unexpectedly and randomly, and for someone to show that amount of appreciation,” he told the Tribune. “It’s not just about the money but spending time with people in the kitchen and telling them how wonderful of a meal it was and how important it was for the cooks to be doing what they’re doing.”

Boka opened in Chicago 12 years ago and has since received many awards. Last year the restaurant received four James Beard nominations.
