Charlie McGrath Directs Stephen Wadsworth's Adaptation of Pierre Carlet De Marivaux's Popular Comedy of Manners

Dead Writers Theatre Collective presents two benefit performances of Pierre Carlet De Marivaux’s “The Game of Love & Chance,” translated and adapted by Stephen Wadsworth , directed by Charlie McGrath at the Stage 773 Cabaret, Oct. 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. Funds raised benefit Dead Writers Theatre Collective and their upcoming productions. “The Game of Love & Chance” will be performed in a cabaret setting with full period costumes and antique props and furniture.

Set in 18th Century Paris, “The Game of Love and Chance” tells the story of Silvia and Dorante, who are engaged to be married but have never met. On paper they are a perfect match, yet each wants to be sure the other is worthy of marriage. To get a better idea of the type of person Dorante is, Silvia trades places with her servant and confidant Lisette; while unknown to her, Dorante has the same idea and trades places with his valet Harlequin. Despite mayhem and social taboos, true love ultimately resolves all in this comedy of manners.

The cast for “The Game of Love and Chance” features Megan Delay as Sylvia, Christine Renee Jones as Lisette, Noah Sullivan as Monsieur Orgon, Shane Michael Murphy as Mario, Paul Dederick as Dorante and Travis Barnhart as Harlequin. The design team includes Charlie McGrath (Director), Sarah Jo White (Costume & Wig Designer). Stage Manager is Michael Hennessy.
