Exclusive advanced screening of 'Sympathy, Said the Shark' to run at Facets on Jan. 11
Chicago-native Casey Morris is the producer of the new horror film, 'Sympathy, Said the Shark,' premiering at Facets on Jan. 11.

Chicago filmmaker Casey Morris is proud to announce an exclusive advanced screening of her new movie, Sympathy, Said the Shark, on Monday, Jan. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Facets, 1517 W. Fullerton. Tickets are $10 or $5 for members, and the screening will include a question-and-answer session with producers Morris and Matthew Mourgides and director/writer Devin Lawrence (“Ghost Adventures”).
Winner of the Audience Award for Best Feature Film at the 2015 Portland Festival, Sympathy, Said the Shark is a psychological thriller that keeps you guessing about who is good, who is bad and what you can really believe.
It’s the story of a young couple who opens their door to a soaked, bloodied, and estranged friend who insists that someone is trying to kill him. The interruption triggers a non-stop night that forces all three of them to confront their own darkest secrets, as well as an even larger threat that is right outside their door.

Morris, who co-produced the film, grew up in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood and was a 1997 graduate of Francis W. Parker School. After graduating from Occidental College in 2001, Morris moved to Los Angeles to pursue her interest in filmmaking.
“I’ve always been fascinated with the power of storytelling and interested in making things come to life,” Morris said. “I’m thrilled to be producing my first film and to be supporting Devin’s creative vision for this story, because I think it’s the kind of film that audiences truly have never seen before.”

The film features an innovative production technique that involves filming from the explicit point of views of the three main characters using a unique camera rig designed specifically for the film.
“We really wanted to explore the idea that we are all prisoners of our own secrets and subjective points of view,” Morris said. “Every time the point-of-view switches, there is an overlap of time where the audience sees or hears something that the previous character missed, which continuously changes the audience’s perception of what’s really going on.”
The film is executive produced by Zak Bagans, star of the hit, paranormal series “Ghost Adventures,” the number one show on The Travel Channel. The film will be released worldwide on video-on-demand platforms on Jan. 15, 2016.
