What else is in store for the weekend? Says the NWS: “High pressure will provide quiet but cool weather to close out the week and kick off the weekend. An approaching warm front will result in snow overspreading the region Saturday night and persisting through the day Sunday. The heaviest snow is expected south of I-80 where 4 to 6 inches is possible. These amounts should quickly taper farther north.”

The snow of the last two days made February the third snowiest on record, too, says the NWS: “The 5.7 inches of snow at O’Hare (Thursday into Friday) brought the monthly total in Chicago to 26.4 inches. ... The meteorological winter snow total in Chicago now stands at 40.3 inches, 11.9 inches above the normal (1981-2010) 28.4 inches.”
