Great Moments in Vinyl plays tribute to U2

If U2's fifth studio album, The Joshua Tree, found them at the peak of the musical and lyrical gifts, the band chose to rethink and reinvent their sound three years later with an album Bono described as "the sound of four men chopping down The Joshua Tree." It was a sound that brought this Irish four-piece even greater success. Relive these memorable milestones in a singular career when Great Moments in Vinyl plays tribute to U2.

Great Moments in Vinyl is a band playing tribute to your favorite LPs! Acollaborative effort between master of ceremonies and bassist, Bill Cochran, a veteran Chicago radio personality (WXRT, WNUA...and WXRT again), and music director/guitarist/vocalist, John Mead, an accomplished musician who performs regularly in Chicago and teaches at The Old Town School of Folk Music. The band will be augmented by musicians selected to round out the arrangements for each song.

It started with a note on a high school bulletin board calling for potential musicians to meet in the home of one of their classmates to talk about forming a band. Today, thirty-eight years, twelve albums, twenty-two Grammy awards, and sales of 150 million records worldwide later, the group shows no signs of losing steam. U2 is a musical phenomenon, beating the odds, shattering expectations, and changing the world. And with our next performance, Great Moments in Vinyl plays tribute to this fantastically successful and enduring band, presenting two of their legendary recordings in their entirety: The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby. And along the way, you'll get the back story behind the songs, the players, and the culture they were a part of.
