Image May Show Man in DePaul Sex Assault

Police think suspect may be linked to two other attacks on women in Lincoln Park.

Chicago police are looking for a suspect who they believe may be connected to a string of sex assaults or attempted assaults in Lincoln Park this month.

The latest attack happened around 1:40 a.m. Thursday, when a DePaul University student was walking alone in the 900 block of West Belden Avenue. Police say that a man grabbed her from behind and forced her to the ground, sexually assaulting the student.

The same man is believed to have grabbed another woman from behind and assaulted her on August 9.

An attempted assault was reported August 15, when a woman was also grabbed from behind. The woman was able to fight off her attacker.

Police have released a surveillance photo of the suspect who assaulted the DePaul student and are asking for the public’s help in identifying him.

In the two attacks on August 9 and August 20, the women were at the entryway of their respective residences. The attacker fled the area on foot.

Police said all three women were walking home alone in the early morning hours in Lincoln Park when they were approached by the unknown male.

The attacks occurred at the following locations and times:

• 1900 block of North Bissell Street, August 9th, 2015 at approx. 3:45 am

• 100 block of West Goethe Street, August 15th, 2015 at approx. 12:25 am

• 900 block of West Belden Ave, August 20th, 2015 at approx. 1:40 am

About the offender:

• The offender is described as a male with Olive skin possibly a white Hispanic.

• 25-45 years of age.

• 5’05”-5’09”, 160-180 Lbs.

• Dark colored short hair.

• Last seen wearing a dark colored and white horizontally striped short sleeved polo shirt and jeans cuffed at the bottom.

Chicago 18th District Police are cautioning residents to take the following personal safety steps:

  • Be aware of this situation and alert your neighbors.
  • Call 911 to report any suspicious persons, vehicles or activity in your neighborhood.
  • Do not walk alone in the late evening or early morning hours.
  • Do not be preoccupied with electronic devices while walking.
  • Always be aware of your surroundings.
  • Always have your keys in your hand prior to entering your residence.
