Eight-year-old Nicholas Curley wanted to give back to his community while doing something “big” as a fundraiser. Because his cousin has epilepsy, he decided to help The Danny Did Foundation, a foundation that raises money and awareness for Sudden Unexpected Death in epilepsy. Nicholas set a goal to ice skate for 100 miles in an effort to raise money and awareness for the disease. Nicholas selected 20 ice skating rinks across the Chicago area, recruited local professional and youth hockey teams to join him, and skated five miles at each rink. To date, he has raised $40,000 in donations to purchase monitoring devices that sound an alarm when someone with epilepsy suffers a seizure while sleeping. The Danny Did Foundation is giving the monitors to individuals with epilepsy to improve the lives of those suffering from the condition. Nicholas is currently the foundation’s single largest fundraiser.
