Together with the Clark Street Special Service Area (SSA), the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce (LPCC) is committed to promoting the Lincoln Park neighborhood’s vibrant business community. The Clark Street SSA and LPCC created the Art on Clark program in 2010 to improve the shopping experience for customers at businesses along Clark Street in Lincoln Park and are thrilled to announce the expansion of the program to Lincoln Park High School (LPHS) students.
On Thursday, October 31 at three locations along Clark Street – 2320 N. Clark, 2324 N. Clark and 2342 N. Clark – the LPCC and Clark Street SSA installed nine pieces of art from all classes of the LPHS Art Department. This collaborative effort between the LPCC and LPHS will be mutually-beneficial for the Clark Street commercial corridor and LPHS student artists.
For artists, especially high school students, finding space to showcase your work is perhaps the hardest part of the process. With Art on Clark helping fill that void, students can focus on honing their craft. The first exhibition, titled “Crossing Cultural Borders”, draws on students’ viewing and analysis of cultural, social and other boundaries in production of their work. For the storefront spaces, graciously donated by James Winkler of the Marwin Company, artwork will improve the shopping experience along Clark Street and help market available commercial space for future tenants. The Art on Clark displays will feature the work of LPHS students through June 2014.

“This coordinated, partnership effort is an opportunity to meet the varied goals of the LPCC, the SSA and LPHS while improving the overall Lincoln Park community for residents and visitors,” said Kim Schilf, President and CEO of the LPCC. “We are thrilled to connect high school student artists to the available space in our community to showcase their work. The Clark Street experience will certainly benefit from their vision. ”
