Nine New Police Officers Deployed To 19th District
The district includes Lincoln Park, Lake View, North Center and Lincoln Square.

CHICAGO — Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago Police Chief of Patrol Fred Waller announced that nine new officers would be deployed to the 19th District. The announcement is part of the latest deployment of Chicago Police Academy graduates, Ald. Michele Smith said in her weekly newsletter.
"This brings us to a total of 101 new officers in the 18th and 19th Districts, which service the 43rd Ward," Smith's announcement read. "I want to thank the Chicago Police Department to their commitment and service to our community."
Earlier this month, Emanuel and Chicago Police Department Superintendent Eddie Johnson announced that hundreds of officers would be deployed to the city's most violent neighborhoods.

"None of us can accept gun violence in any community in Chicago, and all of us will work together towards peace on our streets," Emanuel said in a media release.
There has been some backlash against the deployment, with anti-violence activists saying that cops who aren't familiar with their new beats can cause harm.

Since the start of 2017, CPD has grown by 1,176 sworn officers, Johnson said. This year alone, more than 650 new officers were deployed.
