North Avenue Closes After Gas Main Leak
The leak was found Thursday near the North Avenue bridge.

CHICAGO, IL -- A gas-main leak was detected on the east side of the North Avenue bridge Thursday, according to Ald. Brian Hopkins. The leak has prompted the closure of North Avenue on both sides of the bridge between Sheffield Avenue and the North Branch. The alderman advised drivers to "seek alternative routes until the repair work can be completed."
In a newsletter to constituents, Hopkins said emergency work is currently underway near the bridge.
"People's Gas and Chicago Department of Transportation and Water Management have been notified," he said.
