PAWS Chicago's 17th Annual Angels with Tails Gold Coast

The
17th Annual Angels with Tails Gold Coast, presented
by Merrick Pet Care, is an
opportunity to stroll the sidewalks and press your nose against storefront
windows to sample the joy a pet can bring to your life. More than 200 homeless
puppies, kittens, dogs, and cats will be available for adoption.

In
1997, PAWS Chicago launched the first Angels
with Tails
, an event that united shelters and rescue groups from across
Chicagoland for an adoption event, which showcased homeless pets along
sidewalks and storefronts along Michigan Avenue and Oak Street. Many lives were
saved that day and it was the beginning of greater public awareness around the
staggering reality that thousands of homeless pets are needlessly killed each
and every year; 42,500 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens were killed in Chicago
in 1997 alone. With this awareness and the resulting media attention, the
community has become more involved in finding solutions aimed at stopping this
once hidden tragedy from continuing.

Since the inaugural Angels with
Tails event, the number of animals killed each year in Chicago has been reduced
by more than half.

Nearly
50 retailers around Michigan Avenue, Oak Street and Delaware Place will donate
storefronts and windows to various area animal shelters, rescue groups and PAWS
Chicago for the purposes of promoting and adopting out homeless animals that
are looking for a home to call their own.
