SUV Drives Off Lake Shore Drive Overpass, Injuring At Least 6

The vehicle plunged into construction equipment on the North Side, police said.

CHICAGO — An SUV flew off the Lake Shore Drive overpass and landed on LaSalle Drive Tuesday morning. At least six people were injured, authorities said. Police said the driver may have been drunk.

The SUV landed on its side in a construction zone in the 100 block of East LaSalle Drive around 2:25 a.m., police said.

The driver and at least five passengers were taken to hospitals, where they were stabilized, authorities said. Police were investigating whether alcohol was involved in the crash, and the driver was taken into custody.

All lanes of Lake Shore Drive remained open after the crash, and the SUV was removed from the LaSalle construction zone around 6:30 a.m.
