Aurora Teen Swept Away By Rogue Wave at Diversey Harbor
Firefighters have suspended the search for the 18-year-old from Aurora who was walking along the lakefront Thursday morning.
CHICAGO, IL - An Aurora teen-ager lost his life Thursday when a huge wave swept him into Lake Michigan on Thursday. The search for the teen near Diversey Harbor was suspended due to “extreme turbulence,” according to Chicago Police.
Chicago firefighters began searching for the 18-year-old man Thursday morning after he was swept away by the wave while walking along the lakefront with a friend, CBS Chicago reports. The friend tried to help him out of the water but was not able to. The friend told NBC Chicago the teen was a “thrill seeker.”
The search lasted an hour. The dive team searched for a few more hours Thursday afternoon, and will resume the search Friday.
NBC Chicago reports that the young man’s parents were on vacation in Mexico this week. They were informed this afternoon and are returning home.
