AstonRep Theatre Presents LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES

AstonRep Theatre Company is pleased to continue its 2014-15 season with Christopher Hampton’s drama LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES, based on the classic French novel by Choderlos de Laclos, directed by Charlie Marie McGrath, playing May 21 – June 21, 2015 at The Raven Theatre (West Stage), 6157 N. LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES will feature AstonRep Company Members Sara Pavlak McGuire, Robert Tobin, Alexandra Bennett and Tim Larson with Taylor Bostwick, Barbara Button, Emma Ladji, Jake Meyer and Ann Marie White.
This new production transports the audience back to 1917 Russia before the dawn of the Revolution, where a pair of aristocratic rivals and former lovers employ their wiles in a game of sex and dominance. LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES was the winner of London’s Olivier Award for Best New Play in 1986 and received multiple Tony Award nominations. The film adaptation received three Academy Awards, including Best Adapted Screenplay.

About the Playwright:
Christopher Hampton is a British playwright whose plays include Total Eclipse, The Philanthropist, Savages, Treats, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Tales from Hollywood, The Talking Cure and Embers. His musicals (book and lyrics) include Sunset Boulevard and Rebecca. He has translated plays by Ibsen, Molière, Ödön von Horváth, Chekhov and Yasmina Reza. Screenplays include Dangerous Liaisons, Mary Reilly, The Quiet American, Atonement, A Dangerous Method, Carrington and Imagining Argentina, the last two of which he also directed. Awards include two Tonys, an Olivier, an Academy Award and the Special Jury Prize at Cannes.
About the Director:
Charlie Marie McGrath makes her directorial debut at AstonRep. Recently, Charlie remounted her successful Game of Love and Chance with Dead Writers Theatre Collective, originally produced by Open Door Rep. She has also directed for Proud Kate Theatre Project, the side project, 20% Theatre Company, G&S Opera Company, Prologue Theatre Co., Appetite Theatre Co., City Lit’s Art of Adaptation Festival and the Greenhouse’s Trellis Series. Last season, she was the SDC Observer on A Time to Kill on Broadway. She has recently worked with the Goodman Theatre, Theatre at the Center, Remy Bumppo Theatre Company, Redtwist Theatre, The Music Theatre Company and Strawdog Theatre Company as an assistant director. Charlie is a SDC Associate Member and graduate of AMDA and Northwestern University.
