Calling All Animal Lovers: Chicago Animal Care and Control and Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control Could Sure Use Your Help.

If you’ve ever wanted to be at the frontlines of animal welfare, there could not be a better time than now. The City shelter at 28^th and Western takes in more than 20,000 animals every year. Those animals that are deemed adoptable need exercise, socialization, transfer, rescue, fostering and promotion. It cannot be done without an army of dedicated volunteers. And this is why we desperately need your help.

At the City shelter, volunteers are needed to exercise and socialize the roughly 70 dogs and 30 cats in the adoption rooms, and to help the public find the perfect pet, or a lost pet. Volunteers help transfer animals to approved rescues, promote the animals through social media, and take the animals to City off-site adoption events.  Volunteers are also needed for on-site events that provide the public with low-cost pet care, such as vaccine clinics.

Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control is the nonprofit organization solely focused on helping the City help more of Chicago’s neediest animals by providing additional care and comfort not covered in the City’s limited budget. With Friends, volunteers provide foster homes for urgent animals through a state-licensed foster program. Volunteers host and help out at off-site adoption events. Volunteers also raise desperately needed funds for Friends’ foster program, as well as for programs and improvements at the City shelter.

Whether you are interested in providing hands-on help to Chicago’s neediest animals at the City shelter, providing a foster home to an urgent animal, attending off-site events, or raising funds that will directly help these animals, we have a volunteer opportunity that is eagerly awaiting you – complete with wagging tails and warm purrs.
