Chicago-favorite Mary-Margaret Roberts takes leading role in beloved children's classic coming to Provision Theater in Chicago.
Western Illinois University Alumna Mary-Margaret Roberts to portray "Anne Shirley" in Anne of Green Gables playing at Provision this March.
Provision Theater Company’s Theater for Young Audiences will present a world-premiere adaptation of literary classic Anne of Green Gables featuring Western Illinois University Alumna and Chicago-favorite Mary-Margaret Roberts in the leading role. This sixty minute play will run March 14 - April 19 with performances on Saturdays at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and Sundays at 3:00 p.m. at Provision Theater, 1001 W. Roosevelt Rd., Chicago, IL 60608. There will be no performance on April 5.
Based on the best-selling novel by L.M. Montgomery, this new adaptation by Timothy Gregory comes to the stage at Provision Theater. The Cuthbert siblings expect to adopt a boy, but are in for quite a surprise when clever young Anne Shirley (Mary-Margaret Roberts) steps off the train at Avonlea. Despite her fiery spirit and penchant for getting into trouble, Anne still manages to get into the hearts of every person she meets. It’s a heartwarming story for the whole family!
“It has been a delight working on the adaptation of this literary classic. Refining it down to one hour has been a challenge because the entire book is so good you don’t want to leave any of it out,” says Timothy Gregory, Provision Theater’s Artistic Director. “This book’s popularity is a testament to the character of Anne Shirley herself because she reminds us that no matter how difficult life can get, all things are possible with ‘enough scope for the imagination’ and the faith to believe, and of course, love. These are traits that can exist in all of us, and in every part of the world.”

About Mary-Margaret Roberts
Mary-Margaret Roberts is a professional singer, actor, and dancer currently residing in Chicago’s Wrigleyville neighborhood. A Southern girl at heart, Roberts came all the way from North Carolina to pursue her dreams in the wonderful city of Chicago. Roberts began performing as a toddler and never stopped. After spending her childhood in theatre, dance, and voice, she went on to receive her undergraduate degree in theatre from Emory & Henry College, a ten-minute ride from the Barter Theatre, the State Theatre of Virginia. She studied under several professional actors throughout college, and, as a senior, she was asked to be one of four performing interns at Florida Repertory Theatre, an equity theatre in Fort Myers, FL. Mary-Margaret did not stop there! She took on another challenge--graduate school at Western Illinois University where she received further training in movement, dance, and acting, and even taught some performance classes! Roberts now has her Master of Fine Arts in Acting. She loves living and working in the city and is proud to be a part of the wonderful, supportive theater scene here in Chicago!
