Crime Spike Hits Lincoln Square, North Center

CHICAGO, IL - Crime rates in the city of Chicago have been on a steady rise, and the 19th Police District covering parts of the North Center and Lincoln Square neighborhoods are no different.

There, year to year statistics show robberies are up 53 percent, burglaries up 64 percent and aggravated batteries up 42 percent, according to a CBS-Chicago report.

The report detailed two examples of how the problem has escalated. Both occurred over Memorial Day weekend.

In North Center, a woman said she thought she was going to die when robbed at gun point by four men during her walk home Sunday night.

A Lincoln Square business owner told CBS someone drilled the store's ATM.
