The Douglas Center Video Highlights Community Impact of Growing Shoe Drive
Short video showcases local partnerships, community generosity, and the individuals benefiting from the effort

SKOKIE, IL — What began as a simple community shoe drive has grown into something much larger: a community-wide effort bringing together businesses, schools, churches, libraries, banks, villages, townships, park districts, and residents in support of adults with disabilities.
To celebrate the growing momentum of the initiative, The Douglas Center recently released a short video highlighting the people, partnerships, and purpose behind its Community Shoe Drive.
The video offers a glimpse into the many ways the community has stepped forward to support the effort. Viewers will see shoe collection events, donation bins hosted throughout the area, and participants at The Douglas Center actively sorting, counting, and processing donated shoes.

For the individuals served by The Douglas Center, the shoe drive is more than a fundraiser. Participants play an important role in the project while building vocational and work-related skills through meaningful, hands-on involvement.
"We wanted people to see the heart behind the shoe drive," said Rifath Khan, Founder and CEO of The Douglas Center. "This effort is about community, opportunity, and the power of small acts of generosity to make a meaningful difference."

The video also highlights the many community partners that have helped make the initiative successful by hosting collection bins and encouraging participation throughout the community.
Funds generated through the shoe drive support The Douglas Center's programs and services for adults with intellectual, developmental, physical, and mental disabilities. At the same time, donated shoes are kept out of landfills and help support reuse-based economic opportunity in underserved communities.
The Douglas Center has also expressed its gratitude to participating organizations through floral bouquets created by participants in its "Flowers From the Heart" Creations program, providing a heartfelt way to thank community partners for their support.
The success of this effort depends on the continued generosity of the community. If you have shoes tucked away in a closet that are no longer being used, we invite you to consider giving them a second life. A simple donation can help support programs that bring purpose, opportunity, connection, and independence to the individuals served by The Douglas Center. Donations must be paired and free of tears or holes.
