Ecstasy of Defeat: 'Marathon' Runner with a Pocketful of Drugs Tackled by Cops

Cops say Bryan Duffy tried to lose police by running into the Chicago Marathon pack.

A man in the throng of Chicago Marathon runners didn’t have his eye on the finish line Sunday. Instead, he hoped to outrun the police. With a pocketful of ecstasy and a wad of cash, 29-year-old Bryan Duffy caught the attention of cops when they saw him digging in the flower pots on the marathon route. When they approached him on State Street, he ran into the marathon pack and jostled some of the runners. The cops were faster, though, and tackled Duffy, who resides in the 3900 block of West Belmont Avenue in Avondale. His bail was set Monday at $10,000.
