Former Suburban Police Chief Collects Three Public Paychecks

Forget double-dipping, how about triple-dipping?

You probably recall last week’s ridiculous spring snowstorm, but since you likely were busy shoveling and cursing at Mother Nature, you might not have seen the Sun-Times’ March 23 front page photo of a man body surfing in the warm coastal waters off Australia.

The man in the photo is Tim Baldermann, a former suburban police chief who receives a sizable disability paycheck after a back injury ended his law enforcement career. A legal battle has ensued over the size of the check, but that’s only one-third of the story.

Baldermann also is a part-time mayor of a nearby suburb and full-time superintendent at a small, one-building school district, which means he’s collecting three paychecks from local taxpayers at the same time.

And as local municipalities get dragged down by mounting debt, some are questioning whether this proposed bill in the Illinois House would turn the Land of Lincoln into the “Land of Detroits.”
