#GivingTuesday: How to help your waistline AND those in need

Chicago fitness enthusiasts can help charity while working out this holiday season at Galter LifeCenter

Members of Galter LifeCenter, Chicago’s premier medical fitness center, have a unique opportunity to help those in need this #GivingTuesday and beyond. Beginning Dec. 2 and lasting throughout the month, Galter LifeCenter will donate $1 to Swedish Covenant Hospital’s Helping Hands fund for each mile logged by members on select fitness equipment.

“As a long-term member of Chicago’s north side, Galter LifeCenter is proud to support the health and wellness of our community’s most vulnerable populations,” said Jonathan Lind, vice president of operations at Swedish Covenant Hospital. “This is a great way for our members to exercise, contribute to the community and further develop the camaraderie and collective spirit that makes Galter LifeCenter such a special place.”

Galter LifeCenter members and guests can log their miles on five pieces of “holiday equipment,” including a treadmill, elliptical machine, Stairmaster and Nustep, which is a handicap-accessible piece often used in rehabilitation services.

The Helping Hands fund is a donor-supported program that enables patients in Swedish Covenant Hospital’s emergency room to access medications they may otherwise not afford. This assistance allows the patient to complete their treatment and is crucial in preventing return visits to the emergency room. Online gifts are tax-deductible and can be made at SwedishCovenantFoundation.org/donate
