Immigrant Plans to Share Lotto Winnings with Family

A retailer worker and Nepal native says he will share $200,000 Illinois Lottery prize with his nine siblings.

A retail worker plans to share his winnings with his family after winning $200,000 playing the Illinois Lottery’s instant Bingo game.

“it’s not my money, it’s our money,” Narayan Dhungel said when he presenting his winning ticket at the Illinois Lottery Prize Center in Chicago. “I have four brothers and five sisters. We take care of each other, so this prize is for all of us.”

Originally from Nepal, Dhungel, 29, lives in Chicago and works in retail. He treats himself a few times a week to an instant lottery ticket. When asked what advice he would give to other lottery players he said, “If you win, share with your family.”

Dhungel bought the winning ticket at Marathon, 7550 N. Sheridan Road, in Rogers Park. The retailer also received a $2,000 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling a winning ticket.
