Last Thursday Albany Pack Community Center had our 4th annual Night of Champions silent auction fundraiser at Carnivale. We tried something new that evening–our first Live Auction!
How did it work, you ask? Well, our lovely assistants, most Workforce Development staff and volunteers, lined up with “briefcases”. Our Chief Operating Officer Brendan Foster gave us some exciting facts and started the bidding. We had decided that we wanted to raise $1,000 to open a briefcase. When enough people in the room pledged a total of $1,000 in individual or group efforts, a briefcase was opened and we turned the board and revealed the face and story of one of our clients.
Just what, exactly can we do with $1,000? So much!

- 10 weeks of workshops resulting in 70 clients receiving: Resume Building 1 & 2, Interview Skills 1 & 2, Illinois WorkNet, Social Media, and Job Searching.
- 36 seven day CTA cards or 125 one day CTA cards: to help clients get to our workshops, job interviews, and their new jobs!
- 41 hours of business services: APCC Workforce Development staff must build relationships with hiring businesses such as AirServ, Walmart and Hospitality One; this relationship building results in 130 jobs.
- 47 hours of Case Management or 141 appointments with clients to build an Individual Employment Plan.
- 61 hours of Resource Room services such as job searching, word processing, fax machine and printing for 244 sessions.
Now remember, that is just for opening five briefcases and our amazing guests opened over eight!
At APCC we are transparent with our spending. We want our generous donors to know that their money is going toward serving as many clients as possible. With over eight open briefcases that is over 1,000 appointments, CTA cards and workshops to put people back to work!
