Man Charged After Attempted Kidnapping Of Girl On Northwest Side
Police said the man followed an 11-year-old girl in Albany Park, and tried to kidnap her.

CHICAGO, IL — Police have taken a man into custody after an attempted kidnapping on the city's Northwest Side. On Tuesday, the man followed an 11-year-old girl into a store in the 3600 block of West Montrose around 11:20 a.m., police said. He then followed her to the cash register and helped her place her items on the counter, police said.
Police said the offender then "insisted" the girl come with him and allegedly placed his hand around her.
Gary Powell, 27, was taken into custody right after the incident, police said. Powell, of the 4700 block of North Kedvale Ave., has been charged with one felony count of attempted aggravated kidnapping.

Powell was scheduled to appear in bond court Wednesday.
