Mini-Van Driver Offered 8-Year Old Candy: Cops

The boy was on the sidewalk waiting to go to the park with his family when approached by a man driving a mini-van in Albany Park Monday.

CHICAGO, IL - Police say an 8-year-old boy was on the sidewalk in front of his residence, waiting for his family to take him to the park Monday night when he was approached by a man driving a white mini-van offering him candy.

A police report indicates a Hispanic man in his 30s with curly blond hair on the top of his head and dark hair on the sides drove up to the boy at around 7:10 p.m. Monday night in the 3600 block of North Whipple Street in Albany Park.

The man parked along the curb and asked the victim, "do you want some candy?"

After saying "no" repeatedly and fearing for his safety, the boy ran across the street to a friend's home.

The boy's mother called 911 as the suspect fled south on Whipple.

Police say the suspect was wearing a Navy Blue Polo shirt with a collar. The mini-van had a blue strip along the doors.
