Montrose Beach Cleanup To Be Held During Earth Week

CHICAGO, IL — North Side nature lovers will flock to Montrose Beach this Saturday to help pick up debris, garbage and remove invasive plants. The event is part of Earth Week's Great Lakes Action Days, dubbed GLAD, an initiative to preserve the Great Lakes Ecosystem. The 46th Ward has teamed up with the Shedd Aquarium to host the Montrose Beach cleanup.

The Great Lakes region is home to more than 3,500 plant and animal species and 40 million people. Plastic accounts for 90 percent of the litter that washes up on the Great Lakes' shorelines, the Shedd Aquarium said.

The cleanup will be held Saturday, April 21 from 10:30 to noon at Montrose Beach. Cleanup events will also be held at the following locations:

  • Kathy Osterman Beach: 10:30 am to noon (Cap of 25 people at this location)
