The Neo-Futurists' The Infinite Wrench

The New Nonstop Show From The Neo-Futurists

The Neo-Futurists in Chicago, along with The New York Neo-Futurists and The San Francisco Neo-Futurists, announced today the new name of their late night shows: The Infinite Wrench. The Infinite Wrench begins its ongoing runs with inaugural performances in all three cities Friday, March 3. Performances of the show will follow each company’s regular late-night schedule*, where they will continue to create new work and experiment with the form of presenting two-minute plays.

“We’re changing our show’s name, but we are still The Neo-Futurists,” says The Neo-Futurists Artistic Director Kurt Chiang. “We are making new work at a fast weekly clip, and those plays tell our honest first-person perspectives through chance, risk and speed. We’ll continue to welcome sold-out audiences around the block to our shows every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 50 weekends of the year, every year.”

The three ensembles have experimented for three decades within The Neo-Futurist aesthetic; as of January 2017, Chicago, New York and San Francisco had created over 9,800, 4,000, and 1,000 plays, respectively. Each company spent the last month in preview periods, investigating different elements and structures, just as Neo ensembles have experimented with new plays and forms within the late-night time throughout their respective histories. The Neo-Futurists will continue to collaborate with each other and their sister companies on the best way to present short new works within a quick timeframe.

BIOGRAPHIES:

The Neo-Futurists ensembles in Chicago, New York and San Francisco are collectives of wildly productive writer-director-performers that create: theater that is fusion of sport, poetry and living-newspaper; non-illusory, interactive performance that conveys experiences and ideas as directly and honestly as possible; immediate, irreproducible events at affordable prices; and programs that embrace those unreached or unmoved by conventional theater—inspiring them to thought, feeling and action.

CHICAGO

The Neo-Futurists, now in their 28th year, are creators of more than 65 original, full-length productions and over 9,814 short plays. Pioneering a new form of theater in 1988, they launched what became Chicago’s longest running show, Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind. From humble beginnings as the first late-night theater production in Chicago, The Neo-Futurists have grown to become one of the most highly regarded experimental theater companies in America, sustaining programs such as Neo-Access, The Neo-Futurist Kitchen (a micro-festival on art and performance), Neo-Lab, and their full-length work Prime Time series.
