Police Investigating Shooting Death In Uptown
A man was killed a block away from the Starbucks where three people were shot Nov. 2.

CHICAGO, IL — Police said a man was shot in the Uptown neighborhood Monday night in the 1200 block of West Leland. Someone in a silver car shot the victim in the chest just after 6 p.m., police said. The victim was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center and was later pronounced dead, police said. The shooter escaped and no one was in custody.
The shooting happened just a block away from a Starbucks at Lawrence and Broadway where another man was killed Nov. 2. Two others were shot and wounded, including a 12-year-old boy.
Police said the shooting earlier this month was likely a result of a drug deal between the shooter and the man who was killed. The suspect—who wore a mask—followed the man into the Starbucks and fired on the man, the boy and one other person, police said.

CBS 2 reported the two Uptown shootings could be connected as part of a drug turf conflict, according to sources, however police have not confirmed the connection.
Earlier this month, North Side Ald. James Cappleman said illegal activity has been happening in and around the Lawrence and Broadway Starbucks "for years" and he hopes Starbucks will work more closely with his office moving forward to rectify the problem. A Starbucks spokesperson said its Uptown store has worked hard to ramp up its security and keep patrons safe.
