Women Out Walking Coming to North Side in February

With February being celebrated as National Heart Month, Swedish Covenant Hospital is offering north side women a free, fun program that delivers a multitude of cardiovascular benefits.

The Women Out Walking challenge at Galter LifeCenter, Chicago’s premiere medical fitness facility, is a 12-week walking program designed to help women create a walking plan and make positive changes to benefit their health. The challenge combines medical expertise with an encouraging team environment to help you meet your fitness goals.

Walking is a healthy, low-impact way to stay active and increase your fitness levels. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 145 million adults include walking as a part of a healthy, active lifestyle.

But for many of us, getting started with (and sticking to) a consistent walking plan is no easy feat—long work days, kids’ schedules and chilly temperatures can all get in the way of our best intentions.

Participants will receive a free pedometer and logbook to track their steps. Weekly team wellness sessions will allow you to learn about healthy lifestyle changes and goal-setting techniques to help you stay committed to your health, even after the program ends.
