LISLE, IL — At a July 16 meeting, members of the Lisle Park District Board unanimously opted to direct staff to prepare a resolution proposing a $29,750,000 bond referendum question that would appear on the Nov. 3 ballot. The board will review the resolution at its Aug. 10 meeting.
The Lisle Park District has been considering a new indoor recreation facility since 2023, when it was listed as a top priority on their Strategic Master Plan. A feasibility study conducted in 2025
The study included focus groups, community surveys, market analyses and research into usage of the park district's current indoor recreation options.
Per park district documents, more than 1,500 residents "provided active engagements with the feasibility study project." Some of the "main trends" residents expressed in their feedback included a desire for an indoor swimming pool, an indoor gym with a walking track, indoor playgrounds and fine arts programming.
The priorities outlined by residents via surveys, website interactions and focus groups included pickleball courts and an indoor walking track, in addition to programming for water and fitness classes and adult sports.
Per the study, such a facility would comprise between 37,500 square feet and 52,650 square feet. Development costs were projected to be $27,187,500 and $43,436,250, park district documents show.
In one public opinion survey, 55 percent of participants responded "definitely yes" or "probably yes" to the following question:
"Shall the Lisle Park District, DuPage County, Illinois, improve parks and facilities, including constructing a multipurpose indoor activity center, which would provide a walking and jogging track, gymnasiums, fitness and exercise rooms, and issue its bonds to the amount of $29,750,000 for the purpose of paying the costs thereof."
The deadline to adopt a resolution for a bond referendum question in November election is Aug. 17.
