Benedictine Softball Dominates Conference Awards

The team will compete as the top seed in the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament.

The softball team landed eight players on the 2012 All-Northern Athletics Conference Teams, including Brittany Adcox who was named the Player and Pitcher of the Year while head coach Kate Keller was named Coach of the Year.

Adcox, who was also a First Team All-NAC selection, led the Eagles and the league with a 1.60 ERA. In 26 appearances, the senior hurler struck out 103 batters in 139.2 innings. Adcox was not only a threat on the mound. At the plate she is sixth on the team with a .365 batting average with 42 hits, four doubles, three triples, a homerun and 29 RBI. She is second on the team with 21 steals. This is Adcox' second straight Pitcher of the Year honor.

Three other Eagles were also named to the First Team including Brittany Wolski who leads the team and the league with a .492 batting average and 31 steals. The senior shortstop has tallied 45 runs, 65 hits, seven doubles, four triples, two homeruns and 31 RBI. Recently, Wolski broke the NAC all-time hits in a career mark when she tallied her 211th hit on April 14.

Kelly Mieszala is second on the team and third in the NAC in batting average with .427. The sophomore outfielder has 37 runs, 53 hits, a team high 11 doubles, three triples and 27 RBI.

With 21 runs, 46 hits, five doubles and 26 RBI, Nikki Powers is third on the roster with a .422 batting average. The sophomore first baseman has 221 putouts and 19 assists on the season with a .468 slugging percentage.

Kara Walsh was named to the All-NAC Second Team. The senior catcher is batting .325 with 30 runs, 38 hits, four doubles and one homerun with 28 RBI. She has 12 stolen bases and 143 putouts.

Two rookies were named to the NAC All-Freshman Team. Sara Koch leads all newcomers with a .337 batting average. In 95 at-bats, the freshman outfielder has talied 32 hits, six doubles, one triple and 24 RBI. Also on the All-Freshman team is Chelsea White. With a .319 average, White has totaled 30 hits, three doubles, three triples, two homeruns and 22 RBI on the year. The second baseman has eight stolen bases.

Ashley Parrott was named to the NAC All-Sportsmanship Team. The junior outfielder has played in 14 games and has tallied four hits including a triple with two RBI.

Head coach Kate Keller was named Coach of the Year for the third straight season and has helped her team to their third straight NAC regular season title with a 30-9 overall mark and a 22-2 conference record.

Benedictine has clinched the regular season title and will compete in the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament as the #1 seed.
