BenU Instructor's Sculpture Work Being Exhibited in Krasa Center

New work by Benedictine University at Springfield ceramics and sculpture instructor Robert “Bob” Dixon will be on display April 5-June 15 in the Krasa Student Center at in Lisle.

Dixon’s ceramic pieces reflect his use of original concepts with traditional construction and finishing methods. The works are organic and free-flowing with sculptural lines, creating a balance between structure and spontaneity. The dualities of past and present are revealed in a re-interpretation of traditional ceramics.

Dixon’s exhibit, titled “Transition: Moving from Center,” will be on display during regular campus hours. A reception will be held for the artist from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, April 15 in the Krasa Student Center.

Dixon’s work suggests an immediate physical and emotional response to the moment, based on a thoughtful, knowledgeable and centered approach

“I work each piece of clay with one idea, emotionally expressing the passion I have at the moment,” Dixon said. “Awareness of it originates in the psychological experiences of pain and pleasure. With me, much of the final results lie in the manipulation of the elements through visual techniques. The contrast of tone in the work is as vitally important as the process of seeing.”

Dixon sees his work becoming a metaphor of thought or feeling, or perhaps even life itself.

“Each piece is individual in character and expression that announces itself as boldly assertive,” he said.

Dixon’s work has been viewed at more than 150 exhibitions during the past 35 years. His work is part of collections throughout the United States, China, India and Japan, as well as published in books and periodicals here and overseas.
