Black History Month Conference: "Come Let Us Build A New World Together"

Benedictine University, in conjunction with Roosevelt University, will honor Black History Month with a conference

Benedictine University, in conjunction with Roosevelt University, will honor Black History Month with the conference, “Come Let Us Build A New World Together,” featuring a series of presentations and lectures from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Thursday-Saturday, February 25-27.

The event is designed to connect the past with the current wave of youth activism arising from the socio-economic crises of endangered communities. It will focus on the fight for voting rights and the role of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, lessons from the Mississippi Summer Project, voter registration organizing, Freedom Schools, the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, ramifications of the civil rights movement and connections with contemporary struggles around education and violence in and against endangered communities.

February 25: is designed primarily for teachers, social workers and health professionals working with African-American populations. (On the campus of Benedictine University, 5700 College Road, Lisle, IL.)

Cost: $20

February 26-27: will consist of interactive panels, discussion circles and films designed for high school and college students, community organizations, church groups academics and social justice advocates. (On the campus of Roosevelt University, 430 S. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL.)

Cost: $10 each day or $25 for all three days.
